Macedonia Main Street Murals
Macedonia's already-charming downtown now features a series of artistic murals installed on several buildings on Macedonia Main Street. The project is sponsored by the Macedonia Hamilton Development Corporation and is supported by multiple "Legacy Panel" sponsors, the Community Foundation for Western Iowa, and the Iowa West Foundation.
"Pack the Grandstand"
Artist Zack Jones from Malvern created this 12'x24' mural on four panels which were then installed on the east side of the Stempel Bird Museum building. The intent was to capture the history of the iconic covered Macedonia grandstand. Built in 1928 and gifted to the children of Macedonia by John W. Hamilton in memory of his son, the Macedonia grandstand is a unique and one-of-a-kind structure that has graced our town for decades. Since most historical photos of the grandstand didn't have people in them, a vintage ballgame reenactment was scheduled on May 5, 2024, and Zack captured photos and video to draw inspiration from. Strong Foundations
Artist Courtney Raney of Los Angeles, CA created a 12'x29' mural on aluminum panels which were then installed on the west side of the Macedonia City Hall building. This mural pays tribute to the early history of the town. Three supplemental portraits of prominent town figures were also included and set into old window openings (more details on those below). John Hamilton
A generous benefactor to the town and school, he also gifted farms to the church and funded the covered grandstand and athletic field to the children of Macedonia in memory of his son. The Pack the Grandstand mural commemorates the May event and the numerous memories of the grandstand and ballfield during the past 100 years.

Charlie McCready
The visionary who started Macedonia Implement 125 years ago, which the community joined together during the highly successful anniversary celebration during Donia Days in August of 2024. Five generations of the McCready family have served many farm families in southwest Iowa while providing career opportunities for men and women in the area for decades.

Willoughby Dye
He started Dye Mercantile Store in old town which served the community for 85 years. He also co-founded the Macedonia Bank and pioneered numerous other ventures in town. Willoughby “re-appeared” in September of 2024 with the portrayal by historian Dave Baker who took the crowd through a program outlining the early days of Macedonia and life in the late 1800s and early 1900s after the unveiling of the "Pack the Grandstand" Mural.
